So you finally got ambitious enough to make a cake from scratch and you’ve mixed your dry ingredients and then realize you are one egg short. What now!? No need to trash the batter. This happens to the best of us, so remain calm and scrounge your pantry for the perfect substitute. We’ve got a list of common ingredients we all run low on from time to time.
Tip: As you will see, there are a few items that are substitution rockstars. Don’t double up on those in the same recipe. Example: don’t replace both an egg and butter with applesauce.
